Pre-surgical consultations and education

Any journey with the Victorian Bariatric Surgery Centre begins with a consultation. You will meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals for lifelong weight management, and how surgery may be able to help.

Choosing your operation

There are five operations available through our clinic:

• Sleeve gastrectomy
• Gastric banding
• Gastric bypass
• Bilio-pancreatic diversion
• Orbera

At your consultation, we will talk through these options and some of the variations available for each.

Sharing our knowledge

We believe education is vital to achieving your goals, which is why we take the time to explain the risks and complications of each option as well as the benefits.

We will also talk about weight-related illnesses (such as comorbidities) and the importance of our post-surgery support.

A Bariatric Information Pack, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons literature and our own VBSC information will be provided for you take home and read. We will also provide written information on your particular operation which outlines the procedure itself, the potential risks and complications, and the anticipated outcomes
